Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this week’s featured author, Felicity Rose!
I have to admit I was pretty stoked to interview author Felicity Rose and talk about her erotic novel, “The Real Thing”.
To get started, I asked author Felicity Rose to tell us a bit about herself!
“I am 36 years old, I am married to an absolutely gorgeous hunk of a man who – I know, it’s corny as hell – but he really is my best friend too.
We have two beautiful girls who make everything worthwhile.
I work full time in sales and my favourite thing to do is snuggle up on the sofa with the family – including our two cats – and watch films.
I use a pen name for obvious reasons, although a lot of close friends and family have read my book, knowing it’s me. This includes my lovely mum, who despite the erotic content, has read it, spell checked it and is immensely proud.”
Before getting into the sex talk, I first asked Felicity Rose what inspired her to start writing. Here’s what started Felicity’s journey!
“I have written poetry for a lot of my life, and as a child I used to write a lot of stories. This seemed to die out a little as I got older.
Then one day I woke up with this full-on steamy scene in my head. I ignored it for a while but it wouldn’t go away.
I won’t lie, I was starting to wonder if I was some sex- crazed freak, but decided to write it down as that’s how I got the poems to leave my mind.
It worked and soon I had three or four scenes written down.
When we went into the first lockdown in March 2020, I decided to attempt to put it into a story and was surprised to find that it flowed easily, and before long I had a novel.”
Jumping right into the naughty bits, I wondered what it was that led author Felicity Rose to the erotic genre. Here’s what she had to say!
“I have always read a lot of romance novels, most of them having an erotic side, so I think my mind played on what I enjoy reading and I put it into my own story.”
Since we were up close and personal, and Felicity has written some steamy hot sex scenes in her debut novel, “The Real Thing,” I had to know if any of those passionate scenes were inspired by real, personal events or people in her life.
“There is certainly an element of myself and my husband at the heart of Jim and Saskia, but just the love they have for each other. Our lives are far less explorative and far more run-of-the-mill. A book about us would be a very boring read.”
Writing the perfect scene takes time, and each author has their methods and routines that help the creativity flow. I asked Felicity Rose if there was a certain place, or type of environment she enjoys writing in best.
“Being a mother to two under 10s and working full time, my writing has to happen in any free time I happen to stumble across – which isn’t often. I wrote the entire first book on notes on my phone, then later transferred it to computer to edit. Peace and quiet would be lovely but my two under 10s are both girls so we rarely have any time without chatter.
I generally write while my husband watches TV; I am good at blocking out most noise around me to write.”
Being a mom of 4 kids of all ages myself, and working full time, I understand the busy schedule Felicity Rose must have, and I too have mastered the art of blocking everything out to get some writing in! LOL
Romance is my all time favourite genre to read, and the steamier the better! But when it comes to writing a sex scene, I find myself at a roadblock sometimes. I wanted to know how Felicity Rose puts together such detailed, spicy scenes. I loved what she had to say as I too am quite the pantser!
“Honestly, I am a complete pantser. I open my computer and start writing. My books kind of write themselves. I am just as interested to know what happens next as my readers are.
I find the sex scenes the easiest parts to write. I feel that they just flow naturally. I’m not quite sure what that says about me, but I promise, I am not a sex-crazed freak.”
Now that she has awed the erotic fans with a touching story filled with heart-pounding hotness, I asked Felicity Rose if there was anything new she had coming out, or if she planned on dabbling in other genres.
“I have finished the first draft of book two – “Without You.” It is the second and final close to the series. “The Real Thing” ends on a cliff- hanger so “Without You” wraps up Saskia’s and Jim’s story.
I have a paranormal thriller rattling around in my head and it has been building for some time now.
I am refusing to let it out until book two has been released. Hopefully I will flow when I open the flood gates.”
